The first major collaboration with Roahn Hylton, Best Shot was an extraordinary experience for us as composers.  The raw human emotion captured on screen was powerful and inspiring and, our director, Michael John Warren, has such a wonderful ear for music that allowed for more musical freedom than I’d experienced before in television. 

Roahn had the idea to treat the initial process as they do in the pop industry — a songwriting ‘camp’.  After the initial conversation with Michael four days were spent locked in a studio, recording and producing over 40 full-fledged songs that became the first building blocks of the score. 

Many more recording sessions took place with vocalists & instrumentalists as things took shape both musically but also as the picture edit developed.  The editors and Michael were amazing as they embraced the sound of the music and encouraged a healthy back-and-forth with us. 

The biggest joy came when Warner Bros decided to release the soundtrack through their Water Tower label along wth the show’s release in the Summer of 2017.
